$13M CAD to Strengthen Can-Ex Technologies’ Leadership in Smart Infrastructure Management Across North America

Can-Ex Technologies is proud to announce the closing of a $13 million CAD strategic funding round as part of a broader investment in the Can-Explore Group. Led by Investissement Québec with participation from Fondaction and Desjardins Entreprises, this investment will supercharge Can-Ex Technologies’ vision to reshape how underground networks are inspected, analyzed, and managed across North America.

This $13 million CAD investment marks a major turning point for Can-Ex Technologies, providing the resources to accelerate innovation across every layer of its platform — from hardware to software, from product development to client support.

The funds will therefore enable the company to continue developing next-generation inspection tools, expanding its capabilities beyond mainlines to encompass the full spectrum of sewer system components. It will also support Can-Ex’s expansion across North America, allowing more cities to address the twin pressures of aging infrastructures and climate-related strain.

The funding will also allow Can-Ex Technologies to invest even more in engineering and data science talent to enhance its ability to convert raw inspection footage into high-value insights. It will further strengthen the company’s capacity to innovate, expand training programs, and deliver ongoing support—ensuring that every client, from small contractors to large municipalities, continues to benefit from the most accurate and standardized pipeline assessments over the long term.

Thanks to this financial support, we are providing ourselves the means to achieve our ambitions to stimulate our growth and consolidate our position as a leader in infrastructure asset management”.

Louis Légaré-Lapointe, President of Groupe Can-Explore.

‘’We’re on a mission to turn sewer inspections into a fluid, data-rich ecosystem that empowers every stakeholder—from the contractor holding the camera to the city planner managing capital budgets. This investment gives us the momentum to design smarter tools, deliver sharper insights, and support the people on the field who keep our infrastructure running. It’s about making underground networks easier to monitor, easier to interpret, and ultimately, to make it more durable’’.

Samuel Roux, General Manager of Can-Ex Technologies.

“Investissement Québec is proud to see Can-Explore’s Group reaching a major milestone in its growth journey. Our financial contribution is already yielding results, enabling the acquisition of LCS and ensuring the next generation of leadership is in place. Our leading role in this transaction highlights the strategic support we provide to businesses in their growth ambitions, technological transformation, and commercialization of innovations here in Québec—and around the world.”

Scaling innovation through strategic international alliances

This growth strategy also relies on strong international partnerships with exclusive regional distributors, like GapVax—the vacuum truck manufacturer and our primary partner as the exclusive ZIPCAM 360 distributor in the United States (see full article), CIPP Chile S.A., the official exclusive distributor of ZIPCAM 360 in South America (see full article), and IBOS A.S., vacuum truck manufacturer and exclusive European distributor of the same inspection solutions. This outstanding global reach positions Can-Ex Technologies as a well-equipped company to meet the growing global demand for advanced inspection technologies.

Solving Critical Infrastructure Challenges

Underground infrastructures are now aging faster than cities can respond. Chronic underinvestment, climate volatility, and city growth have created a perfect storm: sewer and water networks are deteriorating while demand for resilience and performance keeps rising. Preventive maintenance is no longer optional, it’s essential.

Yet the very actors responsible for maintaining these networks often face systemic barriers. Contractors operate with outdated tools and tight margins. Municipalities and utilities lack real-time visibility into their networks. Engineering firms struggle with fragmented workflows and limited access to actionable data.

Can-Ex Technologies is tackling this head-on by turning raw inspection data into strategic insight—in the field, in the office, and across all municipal IT systems. With its advanced inspection tools like the ZIPCAM 360 and the software ANALYSIS, Can-Ex empowers cities, utilities, and contractors to inspect more, understand more, and act faster.

Strategic Support for Structured Growth

As the financial arm of the Government of Québec, Investissement Québec has demonstrated a nuanced understanding of the Group’s mission, business model, and the synergy between its two core pillars: its engineering, infrastructure and geomatics services (Can-Explore), and its product division (Can-Ex Technologies).

To better support the company’s growth, a formal internal restructuring has been implemented, positioning Can-Ex Technologies as a distinct entity within the Group—an innovation-driven spin-off poised to redefine infrastructure inspection.

The recent appointment of a dedicated General Manager for Can-Ex Technologies also reflects this new chapter, ensuring that both divisions can evolve with greater agility and independence—while continuing to benefit from the shared vision, technical synergy, and collaborative culture that form the Group’s foundation.
